The Los Angeles Lakers marked an incredible comeback victory against the Phoenix Suns this Friday night. The Lakers were down 22 and returned to win comfortably with a 123-116 scoreline.
Amongst the many celebrities in attendance, former Laker and 3x Defensive Player of the Year Dwight Howard was on the sidelines to cheer for the Lakeshow. Howard was part of the championship-winning 2019-20 Lakers squad and went from one of the most hated players among Lakers fans since leaving in 2012 to one of the most beloved Lakers ever.
While rooting for the Lakers, Howard also engaged in some friendly banter with Suns star Kevin Durant from his courtside seat. During a Lakers free-throw attempt, KD smack-talked back to Howard, snarkily dismissing his time as a Laker and saying he is considered more for his tenure with Orlando Magic.
The veteran big took the banter from KD all in good faith. Posting a video clip of this hilarious incident on X, Howard wrote in caption: KD you talm bout “ im not a laker im a Magic” man you not a SUN you a thunder/warrior
This season seems to be starting on a good note for the Lakers, given it is the first time since 2010 that they are 2-0 up in the season. Furthermore, Anthony Davis playing 30-point games to begin the Lakers’ campaign and JJ Redick’s impressive coaching strategies have also restored hope among fans. As many experts and veterans say, the Lakers are expected to be a dark horse in the West this season.
