VCT Masters Madrid 2024: Format Overview

The VCT Masters Madrid is scheduled to run from Thursday, March 14 to Sunday, March 24, featuring two distinct stages to determine the ultimate victor: a Swiss stage followed by a traditional double-elimination playoff bracket.

Swiss Stage Format Explained

Teams with comparable records will play each other in the first round of the competition in a Swiss-style format until two teams are eliminated. Fans of Counter-Strike Majors are familiar with this system, which guarantees competitive play and fair matchups.

There will be no regional games in the first round; instead, teams placed first in their individual VCT Kickoff events is set against those placed second. While losers go to the 0-1 pool and battle to stay in the game, winners move on to the 1-0 pool to compete for playoff berths. Teams from the same area may face each other in later rounds. The playoff hopefuls that are left will be determined in the final round.

After the Swiss round, the competition switches to the conventional double-elimination playoff format, with a two-day break in between rounds to give teams a chance to reorganize and plan.
