The Memphis Grizzlies recorded a solid win in their season opener against the Utah Jazz, with Ja Morant leading the way. However, Jaren Jackson Jr was notably missing from the season opener tonight. Jackson was injured during the training camp but was nevertheless present on the bench for the Grizzlies.
JJJ is often considered the ‘Robin’ to Ja Morant’s ‘Batman’ on the Grizzlies roster. Following the Grizz’s win, Morant had a few words to say on Robin’s absence from the squad. Quoting JJJ on X, Morant wrote, “Hurry tf up,” responding to Jackson, showcasing his excitement for Memphis to begin the season with a win.
This season is considered a comeback season for the Grizzlies, especially for Ja Morant. The tweet must have been all part of the banter between the two co-stars of the team, who have been known to show incredible chemistry both on and off the court.
However, it seems clear that Ja Morant would want his running mate around while progressing through the remaining 81 games of this season. Without JJJ, Morant led the Grizzs with a 22-point and 10-assist double-double game.
As per Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins, Jackson is much more likely to return for Memphis’ home game on Saturday. Perhaps we could expect a great show from Ja Morant, with Jackson and Desmond Bane around, which could lead Memphis to possibly emerge as one of the dark horses in the Western Conference.
